The Nice Guys of Rock N’ Roll

The combination of blistering guitar work, melodic song structures and a driving percussion section makes Anberlin one of the most explosive bands around. They also manage a feat that few rocks acts can; they capture the intensity of their live show on crisp studio albums. The Florida natives were signed by indie-rock label Tooth & Nail Records three years ago, and released “Blueprints for the Black Market” in 2003. They soon embarked on a national tour that gained the attention of thousands of fist-pumping fans around the country.

Earlier this year, the band released the follow-up to their debut hit that picks up right where they left off. “Never Take Friendship Personal” is the explosive conclusion to “Blueprints…” that takes listeners on a progressive journey through crunchy guitars and indie-rock anthems. But for a band that prides themselves with their musical intensity, the guys in Anberlin have a surprisingly down to earth demeanor and a genuine perspective about their calling.

When asked about important personal lessons that they’ve learned since first getting signed to a record label, lead singer Stephen Christian shows that his band is about more than just their music.

“I’ve realized that I should never take anything for granted,” Christian told Jake in a recent interview. Christian also talked about the importance of reaching out to the suffering and doing more than talking about God. The front-man also told about his passion to show people the love of God through daily actions and care for those that are in need.

With an authentic calling and clear musically chemistry, Anberlin is gaining the respect of longtime fans and first-time listeners. On top of their latest record which displays the same aggressive songwriting with an increased since of maturity, the band is on the road with another relentless tour schedule. But if you happen to see the fab-five live, remember that despite their intensely energetic performance, they’re actually pretty nice guys.
