Next time your flipping through your favorite surf magazine, there’s a good chance that you’ll see Mike Losness. The combination of an impressive host of top sponsors and a surplus of surf contests victories is helping to make a name for the 23-year-old. The So-Cal native has an artistic flair, and his unique style can be seen from both sides of camera. Losness is a contributing photographer for Transworld Surf and is an accomplished painter. Many of the boards in the young pro’s quiver contain original artwork.

Even if you aren’t already familiar with the aggressive surfing of Mike Losness, there’s a good chance that you will be soon. Along with being a National Scholastic Surfing Association champ, he holds a slue of titles from the last seven years and is quickly becoming a surf media darling. Besides being featured in surfing’s most popular publications on a monthly basis, Losness has spots in the acclaimed Rip Curl “Supercomputer” video and the latest from surf-cinematographic extraordinaire Taylor Steele, “Campaign.”

It’s been hard to escape the images of Losness’ radical style that incorporates his inclination for high-flying aerials and lightening fast maneuvers. His explosive style is reminiscent of fellow pros C.J. Hobgood and Taj Burrow, but his goofy-foot versatility gives him a style that he has made his own.

More than his eclectic mix of talents and raw ability as a progressive surfer, Mike Losness is a genuine guy. His laid-back personality and humble demeanor have made him a favorite among fans and fellow-pros. In the past year Losness has accompanied surf superstars like Shane Dorian, Dan Malloy and other top pros around the world to exotic locales like Morocco, Bali and South Africa. With his good natured attitude and positive outlook on life, Mike Losness is doing more than just becoming a world class pro surfer; he’s quickly becoming one of the most popular guys in the sport.
