The Rise of Bryan Dowdy

At just 19 years-old, Bryan Dowdy is on his way to becoming a superstar of freestyle motocross. His dyed black hair, fearless stunts and punk-rock attitude have made him a recognizable face in the quickly growing action sport. The high-flying Oklahoman stormed onto to the scene with an appearance at the summer X-games and pro events around the country. His rookie year has established the young rider as a brave competitor with a technical flare.

Dowdy grew up in the outskirts of Oklahoma City and started riding just as a hobby. After trying his hand at racing, a group of friends invited him (Dowdy was 16 at the time) to come jump the local motocross ramp.

The novice rider was a natural; his first day started with a 35 foot jump and ended with Dowdy ramping at the breakneck height of 80 feet. While developing his unique style and even inventing his own trick (the no-handed shaolin) Dowdy began winning local competitions and making a name for himself among up-and-coming freestyle riders. After a jaw-dropping showing at 2004’s summer X-Games, sponsors flocked to get the young prodigy on board.

Some of the companies that call Dowdy a team member include Von Zipper, MTX Audio, 88 Shoes and most notably the Riders4Christ ministry. Riders4Christ is a motocross outreach group that uses the sport to reach young people with the positive message of Christ. It’s a mission that Bryan Dowdy knows well.

Dowdy is known for more than just his no-handed 80 foot aerials; he has a reputation for a down-to-earth lifestyle and is outspoken about his relationship with God. He wears his faith on his sleeve … literally. Among his sponsors is the Christian based Truth Soul Armor. He is a premiere rider for the clothing company that combines cutting edge design with messages of hope. Along with his ties to Christians in the action sports industry, Dowdy has helped to establish outlets for young riders at his church in Oklahoma.
